What to Expect in Each Season
🍂 Post-Monsoon (September – November) – PEAK SEASON
This is widely considered the best time for river rafting in Rishikesh. The monsoon rains have subsided, leaving the Ganges with the perfect water levels — high enough for thrilling rapids, but safe for all skill levels. The sky is clear, the air is fresh, and the Himalayan landscapes are at their most scenic. All rafting routes including Grade III–IV are fully accessible. October and November see the highest demand — book well in advance.
❄️ Winter (December – February) – QUIET SEASON
Winter offers a peaceful, affordable rafting experience with fewer tourists and discounted packages. Water levels are lower, making conditions calmer — ideal for beginners. However, water temperatures drop significantly (as low as 10°C), so wetsuit rental is recommended. January is the coldest month and only shorter routes are advisable. February sees improving conditions as temperatures begin to rise.
🌸 Spring (March – June) – SECOND BEST SEASON
Spring is the second peak season for Rishikesh rafting. March, April, and May bring warm, sunny days — perfect for all rafting routes. The weather is comfortable, water levels are moderate, and prices are standard. May can get hot (up to 38°C), but the river keeps you cool! June is the last month before monsoon; shorter routes remain available through most of June.
🌧️ Monsoon (July – August) – SEASON CLOSED
Rafting is completely suspended during monsoon by Uttarakhand Tourism Board. Water levels rise dangerously, flash floods are possible, and currents become unpredictable. The region is beautiful during monsoon for sightseeing, yoga, and spiritual retreats, but river rafting is absolutely not available. Plan your trip outside July–August for the best experience.
Tips for Planning Your Rishikesh Rafting Trip
Book in Advance
During peak season (Oct–Nov, Mar–May), rafting slots fill up quickly. Book at least 7–10 days in advance to secure your preferred date and route.
Dress for the Season
Winter: carry warm clothes and consider wetsuit rental (₹200–300). Summer: light quick-dry clothes are best. Always bring a change of clothes.
Off-Season Savings
Winter months (Dec–Feb) offer 15–25% discounts on most packages. Great for budget travelers who prefer smaller crowds.
Combine with Other Activities
Visit during October–November or March–April to also enjoy trekking, bungee jumping, camping, and Ganga aarti in the same trip.
Water Level Matters
Higher water = faster, more challenging rapids. If you're a beginner, February–April offers calmer, more manageable water levels across all routes.
Start Early
Rafting slots run 7 AM – 2 PM. Morning slots (7–10 AM) offer cooler conditions and fewer crowds. Afternoon sun can be intense in summer months.
