What a dispiriting conclusion by the Global Campaign for Education in their report, ‘Back to School?’.
Eritrea is the penultimate member of the global class in terms of provision of education to its people. Only Somalia – that’s the war-torn failed state – scored worst. Even Iraq and Afghanistan got better marks.
I suspect that the rating may have been affected by the lack of data available to the charity’s researcher. I know that these global league tables are pretty rough guides. But I still think that one can take something away from them.
For a country which prides itself on the ingenuity and erudition of its people, its very depressing.
Someone needs to give Isaias a good smacking.
